Here you go guys..the guide to making your phone awesome, as I promised.
Let me first clear out some facts here. Rooting, bootloader unlocking,
kernel installation, rom flashing are things that manufactures (eg:
Sony) doesn't want their customers to try. Its simply because the
above things has the potential to totally ruin your phone and render
it useless IF done in any wrong manner. They look at us as threats
because their is a certain cost in repairing dead or bricked phones.
And if we are given the freedom to do stuffs like above 6 out of 10
guys will make there phone dead. So...they simply put the rule 'Try
these at your own risk...anythings happens...you are on your
own...NO WARRANTY!!!' So people who are afraid of no-warranty policy
...stay clear of what's coming next.
But here is another fact. A phone that goes bad by rooting or
installing roms CAN be repaired. Of course by yourself. So, before
beginning ANYTHING..lets learn to repair your phone. Cause once you
know you have a way back ...you gain 'confidence' in yourself to go
ahead.
HOW TO FLASH ORIGINAL ROM: Flashing a original Sony rom reverts back a
phone to the same state when you bought it first. Its the ONLY safe
and easy way to repair a dead phone. You will need a PC (duh!!!) and
some software to help you flash. That software's name is FlashTool.
Below I will give the link to this software and the links to the
original Sony roms. One is gingerbread ..the other ICS. Both isn't
the latest of their respective builds, instead they are the ones that
can be easily rooted.

Gingerbread: http://www.4shared.com/rar/e41nzjAa/Ne0V_402A042.html

Note: If you install any custom rom you don't have to root. Its
already pre rooted. As for installing CWM, the kernel has it inbuilt.
In case you are having trouble understanding these words (cwm, kernel
etc), visit this link and go through it.
Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269
Those who want to retain warranty and simply root and install cwm, the
above link has all the details. Rooting voids warranty too but since a
phone can be 'unrooted', so warranty can be retained. Best way is to
flash a original sony rom to unroot your phone. Unlocking bootloader
is a irreversible process...once you do it.. Your warranty is gone
for good. Bootloader unlocking is a must to install custom rom and
custom kernel.
Note: What is warranty anyway? Its just a backup system IF your phone
has any manufacturing defect or is rendered useless by going dead. If
you are using your phone for a month or two already, that means that
it has no manufacturing defect. As for going dead, I already mentioned
the method above to revive your phone. So unless you break your phone
(which in fact warranty doesn't cover) you are better off without
warranty and a rom that's 10 times better than original Sony.
OKAY!!! Now lets begin the part where 'being awesome' comes...That
is HOW to unlock bootloader, flash kernel and then flash a custom rom.

UNLOCK BOOTLOADER:
http://www.androidegis.com/how-to/how-to-unlock-bootloader-of-sony-ericsson-xperias-phones/
Above link has the best description on how to unlock.
Note: Unlocking bootloader may or may not reset your phone. So better
make your backup (contacts, messages etc).
CWM RECOVERY: This the main thing that does all the rom installation
(flashing). Good thing is that it is in the phone. So you can flash
roms any time you want (provided you have the rom zip file in your SD
card).
KERNEL: This thing binds the software to the hardware. Usually all
custom roms has their own custom kernel. So unless the roms in your SD
card are based on the same kernel, you better not try to switch roms
on the fly. Installing kernels need PC. Kernels are of 'boot.img'
type. Usually 5-10mb.
ROM: Roms are in zip form. Usually 150mb approx size.
In this guide I will teach you how to flash the CyanogenMod 10 custom
rom. In case you want to use anything different, simply replace the
respective files with your rom. Process is same for all..so
depending on what file you use..you will end up with a different rom.

  • Rating0
  • AnonD-542
  • t1$

STEPS: After unlocking bootloader you have to download the custom roms
and kernels. The cyanogenmod 10 is based on Android JellyBean, the
latest and the best out there. Its way better than ICS and definitely
more featured than GB.. The links to the rom zip file (has the
boot.img file inside the zip itself...simply extract this out and
keep it separately ..DON'T extract everything ..just the kernel)
and the xda thread of the rom are as follows,
Download Link: http://uploaded.net/file/ia6q0zu1/from/8cxrap
Xda Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780329
Keep following this thread for new updates or discussions on bug
fixes. The last page has the latest comments.
Note: Although there is another update to the rom version I linked to
above, its not stable. So stay away from it. The one i gave is
fxp138..latest is fxp139. Fxp is a team of developers that ports
cyanogenmod roms to xperia phones like Neo, Neo v, ray, etc..

Now, if you have understood the method of reviving your phone by
flashing original Sony rom using flashtool (I explained in the very
beginning) then you must have come across the words 'Fastboot' and
'FlashMode'. These are nothing but two ways of connecting a turned OFF
phone. Flashmode is suitable for flashing roms using flashtool kinda
softwares while fastboot is used to flash kernels (they have more uses
but this is all you need to know). Here we will need the Fastboot
method of connecting your off xperia Neo v to your PC in order to
flash the kernel (the boot.img file).
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Holding the menu button, connect the USB. This will light a blue
colour in your notification light which is right under the lock/unlock
button. The PC will try to install drivers for the device. Just cancel
it and manually update driver using the files that I will upload to
you once you contact me on sbdevilmind@gmail.com (if you have done the
bootloader unlock process on this same PC then the driver is already
installed) . I made a slight change to the files which in turn makes
flashing kernel easy (ya..the tools to flash kernel is inside this
package alone).
3. Once you get the package from me. Extract it and keep it in a folder.
4 Inside there will be a fastboot folder.

  • AnonD-542
  • t1$

5. Inside that folder some files like fastboot.exe, boot.img and
runme.bat files exists. Replace that boot.img file with the one you
got with the rom. Open fastboot.exe. Something will open and close.
Ignore. Then open runme.bat file. A command prompt will open. Copy
paste the command, inside the Text file I put in the same folder, into
this command prompt. Its something like this 'Fastboot flash boot
boot.img'. Press enter. Some lines will appear and the process will be
completed withing 5 seconds. Kernel Installed!!!

6. On phone.
7. A beautiful screen with 'FreeXperia' written will appear (instead
of 'sony') . Go into CWM (keep clicking volume down button... WHAT?
.. You don't know how to use cwm by now...Were you sleeping?..:P
..)
Note: Jellybean cwm is a bit buggy. Keeps bouncing horizontally
whenever you navigate. Nothing serious.
8. Do full wipe [Factory reset, cache partition, dalvik cache]. In
'mounts and storage' format /system, /data, /cache
9. Flash the rom zip that you saved in your SD card (the cm10
rom...150mb or something like that file...)
10. Process takes about 5 minutes. Done.
Note: In roms, developers don't include the Google Apps (gaaps in
short). Apps like Gallery, maps, etc etc. So in order to have them,
you have to use cwm to flash another zip file. It has all the
applications. Do it right after flashing rom. Here is the link,

There are a few bugs in the Cm10 rom. They can be rectified as follows,
1.Low call volume: Install rootexplorer ..then to repair 'low in-call
volume' bug just delete audio_ policy.msm7x30.so file from
/system/lib/hw/
2. Button lighting too aggresive: Need to change a file inside system.
Contact me on my mail address to get the file and the method.
Any other bugs..tell me or read the comments in xda thread to know
solutions to new bugs.
Its all done. I might have missed a thing or two. If I have and you

Farabi, 28 Sep 2012Lets make it simple here.1.istall flashtool and drivers(neo v,fastboot, flash mode) from flash.. moreWell..that\'s the difference between knowing and trying to explain. You showed that you know...but even I didn\'t make out some things from your mini guide. Always remember this, \'When you teach, simply think that the taught know absolutely nothing\'. I explained or linked to pages that explains everything. The noobest of the noob can at least learn something from my guide.
For me installing custom is just like this,
    1. Flash kernel using command prompt.
    2. Restart phone and clear all cache in cwm.
3.Flash rom zip from SD card.
    4. Flash gaaps.
    5. Restart.

Here you go guys..the guide to making your phone awesome, as I promised.
Let me first clear out some facts here. Rooting, bootloader unlocking,
kernel installation, rom flashing are things that manufactures (eg:
Sony) doesn\'t want their customers to try.
So...they simply put the rule \'Try
these at your own risk...anythings happens...you are on your
own...NO WARRANTY!!!\' So people who are afraid of no-warranty policy
...stay clear of what\'s coming next.
But here is another fact. A phone that goes bad by rooting or
installing roms CAN be repaired. Of course by yourself. So, before
beginning ANYTHING..lets learn to repair your phone. Cause once you
know you have a way back ...you gain \'confidence\' in yourself to go
    ahead.
HOW TO FLASH ORIGINAL ROM: Flashing a original Sony rom reverts back a
phone to the same state when you bought it first. Its the ONLY safe
and easy way to repair a dead phone. You will need a PC (duh!!!) and
some software to help you flash. That software\'s name is FlashTool.
Below I will give the link to this software and the links to the
original Sony roms. One is gingerbread ..the other ICS. Both isn\'t
the latest of their respective builds, instead they are the ones that
    can be easily rooted.
    Flashtool : http://androxyde.github.com/
    Gingerbread: http://www.4shared.com/rar/e41nzjAa/Ne0V_402A042.html

Note: If you install any custom rom you don\'t have to root. Its
already pre rooted.
Rooting voids warranty too but since a
phone can be \'unrooted\', so warranty can be retained.
(which in fact warranty doesn\'t cover) you are better off without
warranty and a rom that\'s 10 times better than original Sony.
OKAY!!! Now lets begin the part where \'being awesome\' comes...That
is HOW to unlock bootloader, flash kernel and then flash a custom rom.

    UNLOCK BOOTLOADER:
    http://www.androidegis.com/how-to/how-to-unlock-bootloader-of-sony-ericsson-xperias-phones/
Above link has the best description on how to unlock.
Note: Unlocking bootloader may or may not reset your phone. So better
make your backup (contacts, messages etc).
CWM RECOVERY: This the main thing that does all the rom installation
(flashing). Good thing is that it is in the phone. So you can flash
roms any time you want (provided you have the rom zip file in your SD
    card).
KERNEL: This thing binds the software to the hardware. Usually all
custom roms has their own custom kernel. So unless the roms in your SD
card are based on the same kernel, you better not try to switch roms
on the fly. Installing kernels need PC. Kernels are of \'boot.img\'

STEPS: After unlocking bootloader you have to download the custom roms
and kernels. The cyanogenmod 10 is based on Android JellyBean, the
latest and the best out there. Its way better than ICS and definitely
more featured than GB.. The links to the rom zip file (has the
boot.img file inside the zip itself...simply extract this out and
keep it separately ..DON\'T extract everything ..just the kernel)
and the xda thread of the rom are as follows,
    Download Link: http://uploaded.net/file/ia6q0zu1/from/8cxrap
    Xda Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780329
Keep following this thread for new updates or discussions on bug
fixes. The last page has the latest comments.
Note: Although there is another update to the rom version I linked to
above, its not stable. So stay away from it. The one i gave is
fxp138..latest is fxp139. Fxp is a team of developers that ports
cyanogenmod roms to xperia phones like Neo, Neo v, ray, etc..

Now, if you have understood the method of reviving your phone by
flashing original Sony rom using flashtool (I explained in the very
beginning) then you must have come across the words \'Fastboot\' and
\'FlashMode\'.
I made a slight change to the files which in turn makes
flashing kernel easy (ya..the tools to flash kernel is inside this
    package alone).
    3. Once you get the package from me. Extract it and keep it in a folder.
4 Inside there will be a fastboot folder.

    • t1$

Its something like this \'Fastboot flash boot
boot.img\'. Press enter. Some lines will appear and the process will be
completed withing 5 seconds. Kernel Installed!!!

    6. On phone.
    7. A beautiful screen with \'FreeXperia\' written will appear (instead
of \'sony\') . Go into CWM (keep clicking volume down button... WHAT?
.. You don\'t know how to use cwm by now...Were you sleeping?..:P
    ..)
Note: Jellybean cwm is a bit buggy. Keeps bouncing horizontally
    whenever you navigate. Nothing serious.
    8. Do full wipe [Factory reset, cache partition, dalvik cache]. In
    \'mounts and storage\' format /system, /data, /cache
    9. Flash the rom zip that you saved in your SD card (the cm10
rom...150mb or something like that file...)
    10. Process takes about 5 minutes. Done.
Note: In roms, developers don\'t include the Google Apps (gaaps in
short). Apps like Gallery, maps, etc etc. So in order to have them,
you have to use cwm to flash another zip file. It has all the
applications. Do it right after flashing rom. Here is the link,

There are a few bugs in the Cm10 rom. They can be rectified as follows,
1.Low call volume: Install rootexplorer ..then to repair \'low in-call
volume\' bug just delete audio_ policy.msm7x30.so file from
    /system/lib/hw/
    2. Button lighting too aggresive: Need to change a file inside system.
Contact me on my mail address to get the file and the method.
